HOW TO USE THIS APP

A quick walkthrough of how Karting Timing works — from your very first tap to what each button on the main menu actually does.

1. TWO WAYS TO GET STARTED
Driver Login
For regulars
Register once with your name to get a personal PIN. Every lap you drive, every stopwatch run and every Team Stopwatch session is saved to your account permanently — so your personal bests and full history are always there, session after session.
Drop In
For a one-off visit
No registration, no PIN — tap and go. You get exactly the same live timing as a registered driver, but MY STATISTICS only shows what you drove up to midnight — after that it's still saved, just no longer shown to you unless you register.
2. YOUR MAIN MENU
MY RACE — your live lap times for the kart you're currently driving, straight from the track's own timing system. Enter your kart number once and every lap appears here the instant it's recorded.
MY STATISTICS — your personal bests, totals and complete history across every session. A YOUR RACES list at the top shows every individual race you've done (Drop In, Grand Prix, whatever it was called), most recent first — click any one to jump straight to the BY TRACK breakdown below it, with your full stats for every track you've ever driven. Drop In guests see today's numbers only (visible until midnight).
LIVE TIMER — an independent stopwatch you control yourself, for timing anything the track's own system doesn't cover. Tap LAP to record a split — the clock resets to zero and keeps going straight away.
TEAM STOPWATCH — built for two people: a WATCHER stands trackside and controls the timer, while the DRIVER's own phone just shows the times live. Every lap is saved automatically for the driver.
LIVE DROPIN — see every driver currently out on the track at once, side by side, live (registered drivers and Drop In guests together).
ALL DROPIN — every session/heat recorded at this track, listed as "DROP IN 1", "DROP IN 2" and so on in the order they ran, for today by default. Change the date either via the date field, or the −/+ buttons right above it — − steps back a day, + steps forward a day and refreshes the list, but only up to today (greyed out once you're there — no paging into the future). Click a session to see every kart that rode in it together, then click a specific kart for its own full lap-by-lap detail — lap number, lap time, position and when each lap happened. Every row on these two screens has a small green › arrow on its right edge as a reminder that the whole row is clickable. Click the table itself (TAP TO EXPAND) on any of these screens to blow it up full-screen.
FAST KARTING — a button above the date field on ALL DROPIN. Ranks every KART NUMBER at this track by its own best lap (not by driver), with DAY / WEEK / MONTH / YEAR / ALL TIME tabs — same −/+ day-stepper as ALL DROPIN on the DAY/WEEK/MONTH/YEAR tabs. 🥇🥈🥉 medals mark the top 3 fastest karts in the table. ALL TIME adds a TIMES #1 column, how many separate days that kart's been the single fastest kart of the day. Click any kart's row for its complete history: every session, total laps, total time on track and its all-time best lap.
LIVE LEADERBOARD — click the button below "YOU ARE AT" on the main menu, any time. See who's fastest right now, an animated winner announcement the moment everyone finishes, and the best lap here today, this week, this month and this year — it just shows "no live session" if nothing's running yet.
3. YOUR KART NUMBER

Right next to the LEADERBOARD button on the main menu is a "Kart #" button — the fastest way to pick or change your kart without leaving the main screen.

Kart #Num button — shows your currently selected kart number at a glance. The text underneath reads "Select kart number" if you haven't picked one yet, or "Change kart number" once you have. Click it any time to open a full-screen number pad (same style as the login PIN pad), pick your kart, and you're dropped straight back on the main menu — no trip to MY RACE needed. Clicked it by mistake? There's always a CANCEL — BACK TO MAIN MENU button right there to back out without changing anything.
MY RACE button blinks when your kart is selected and ready to go (waiting or in the pit lane) — a visual nudge to click in and start watching your laps. It stops blinking on its own once you're actually out on track racing, or once the session ends.
Kart status colors — the Kart #Num button itself changes color once your kart's status is known: green = FREE (not in any live race right now), yellow = READY / WAITING (in the pit or about to start), red = IN A RACE (out on track this very moment). The text under the button shows the same status in words.
CLEAR KART NUMBER — on the kart-number page (open it from the Kart #Num button), if a kart is already selected there's a CLEAR KART NUMBER button. Clicking it clears the kart number immediately, with no confirmation popup — it resets things exactly as if you'd never picked a kart number at all. This never logs you out, whether you're a registered driver or a Drop In guest — it only ever touches the kart number.
4. YOUR TRACK IS REMEMBERED

The first time you pick a track on SELECT TRACK, this device remembers it. Log out and back in, or close and reopen the app, and you're taken straight to the main menu with that same track already selected — no need to pick it again every time. Want a different one? Click CHANGE TRACK at the bottom of the main menu — that's the only thing that clears the remembered track, and the one you pick next is then remembered in its place.

5. LOGGED IN VS. NOT
Logged in with a driver PIN: everything is permanent. Your stats, your history and your kart number are remembered the next time you log in, on any device.
Dropped in as a guest: live timing works identically, but MY STATISTICS only shows today's numbers, up until midnight — nothing carries over into view on your next visit unless you register (the data itself is still saved, it's just no longer shown to you).
6. ADD IT TO YOUR HOME SCREEN

Best used as an icon on your phone's home screen, or as its own app window on a computer, not a browser tab — it opens full-screen with no address bar in the way, and the screen-stays-on / auto-rotate features work more reliably that way too.

  2. 2Click INSTALL APP NOW above if it's showing — that's the browser's own one-click install, no menus needed.
  3. 3Not showing? Look for a small install icon at the right edge of the address bar, or open the ⋮ menu and choose "Install Karting Timing…".
  4. 4It opens as its own app window from then on — a FULLSCREEN button (see the welcome screen) toggles it full-bleed, no browser chrome at all.
7. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What's the QR code for, and where is it?
It's a quick way to get someone else onto Karting Timing — it appears in the top corner of both the welcome screen and the SELECT TRACK page. Point a phone's camera at it and it opens the app straight away, no need to type a web address. Click it yourself any time to see it enlarged, full-size and easy to scan — click again (or the ×) to close. It only shows up once it's been set up for this venue; if you don't see one, it just hasn't been configured yet.
What's the circular arrow-icon SHARE button on the welcome screen?
Click it to send this app's link to someone. If your browser supports it, this opens the normal OS share panel; otherwise it opens a small built-in menu with direct WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Messages and Email buttons plus "Copy Link" — pick whichever you actually use, and it opens straight into a pre-filled message with the link ready to send. Shared links show a proper title, description and icon wherever they land.
Should my phone be portrait or landscape?
Portrait (upright) is fine for: the welcome screen, driver login, register, forgot PIN, the main menu, SELECT TRACK, MY ACCOUNT, About and Help.
Landscape (sideways) is needed for: MY RACE, LIVE DROPIN, ALL DROPIN, FAST KARTING, MY STATISTICS (and its COMPARE and ONLY MY TIME ON TRACK pages), LIVE TIMER (and its stopwatch stats), TEAM STOPWATCH, and LIVE LEADERBOARD — the app will ask you to rotate if you open one of these while still upright, since they all need the extra width for their tables/timers.
What's my "kart number" and where do I get it?
It's the number painted on the kart you've been assigned, given to you by the track staff before your session starts. Enter it once on MY RACE (or when joining TEAM STOPWATCH) — every lap the track's timing system records for that number is then yours.
I forgot my PIN — what now?
On the login screen, tap "Forgot it? Find my PIN" and enter your name. If it matches a registered account, your PIN is shown right there — no need to register again.
Can I log in on more than one phone?
Yes. Your driver PIN works on any device — logging in on a second phone doesn't log you out anywhere else.
Does Drop In save anything permanently?
Yes — every lap and stopwatch run is saved permanently in the system either way. The only thing that changes at midnight is what's shown to YOU on MY STATISTICS: today's laps stop appearing there once the day rolls over, since a Drop In guest has no account to log back into later. Register with a PIN if you want to keep browsing your own stats after that.
I closed the app / lost my session as a Drop In guest — is my data gone?
No. Every Drop In lap is saved by track and kart number in the system, not tied to your browser tab staying open. Once you set your kart number again on MY RACE, MY STATISTICS automatically finds today's laps for that kart — no need to type anything in twice.
Someone else used the same Drop In device/kart today — how do I see only my own laps?
On MY STATISTICS, click "ONLY MY TIME ON TRACK" (Drop In guests only). Enter roughly the FROM/TO time you actually drove and it shows your best lap and stats for just that window, leaving out anyone else's laps at any other time.
How does TEAM STOPWATCH pairing actually work?
Both people open TEAM STOPWATCH on their own phone and pick the same kart number. One taps WATCHER (controls Start/Lap/Reset from trackside), the other taps DRIVER (just watches the times live). There's no separate "connect" step — the moment both are open on the same kart, they're automatically paired.
What's the small circle next to a name on the LIVE LEADERBOARD?
A green checkmark means that name matches a registered driver account; a plain dot means it's a Drop In guest (or just doesn't match any registered name exactly). It's a best-effort match by name, not a guarantee — two people can share a name.
Where's the log out button?
On the main menu, at the bottom of the screen, next to CHANGE TRACK — a "LOG OUT" button. There's also a full-size one on the SELECT TRACK screen if you're between tracks.
What's the little star / checkmark / colored dot next to my name?
A green star means you're logged in with a driver PIN — your results are saved to your account forever. A dot that slowly cycles green → yellow → red means you're a Drop In guest who hasn't picked a kart yet, nudging you to register or select one. Once you've picked your kart, that becomes a plain green checkmark instead. Click your name any time to see a short message about it — a trophy and a thank-you if you're logged in, or a reminder to log in with your PIN or pick your vehicle if you're a guest. Close it with the × in the corner, or by clicking anywhere on it. This same reminder also pops up automatically the moment a guest with no kart number opens MY STATISTICS — there'd be nothing of yours to show there yet otherwise.
Why is the LIVE LEADERBOARD's "best lap here" empty?
Those today/week/month/year/PICK A DATE numbers are pulled from GLOBAL TRACK HISTORY, a setting for this venue. If it's off, live positions and the winner announcement still work fine — only those specific period stats need it turned on. Ask the track to turn it on if you'd like to see them.
Can I see the best lap for a specific day on the LIVE LEADERBOARD?
Yes — click the "PICK A DATE" tab above the standings, choose any date, and it shows that single day's fastest driver and lap time, pulled from the same permanent history as today/week/month/year.
Why does the LIVE LEADERBOARD still show the last race after it finished?
That's intentional — the standings and winner announcement stay on screen exactly as they were until a genuinely new race actually starts, so nobody misses the results in the gap between one heat ending and the next one being set up. It only clears when a different race begins.
Why does the app ask me to rotate my phone?
Some pages — timers, lap tables — need extra width to show everything clearly, so they only work in landscape. The main menu and the login screen work fine in either orientation. If turning your phone doesn't seem to do anything, check your phone's own rotation-lock switch (Control Center on iPhone, Quick Settings on Android) — if that's on, the screen physically can't rotate no matter what the app does.
What's the colored warning banner that sometimes appears?
A site-wide announcement has been switched on, shown to everyone until it's turned back off. Its color tells you how serious it is — red is the most serious (e.g. server maintenance), then orange (warning), yellow (caution), and green (just an FYI, nothing wrong). On most pages it's a slim strip at the top, so the rest of the app keeps working underneath it. On the main menu specifically, it's a bigger full-screen version that's hard to miss — click the × in the corner to close it for now; it comes back if you revisit the main menu while it's still on.
What's the animated logo screen when the app first opens?
Just a short splash screen — it fades away on its own after a moment and takes you straight to the welcome screen. There's nothing to click and nothing to wait on. This can be turned off, or its duration changed, for this venue.
What's the "GET THE APP" button on the welcome screen?
A preview of the native iPhone and Android apps we're building — they're not out yet, so clicking it just shows what's coming, not a real download. For now, "Add to Home Screen" (see section 6 above) — including the one-click INSTALL APP NOW button on Windows/Mac/Linux — is the closest thing to an app and works today.
What's the FULLSCREEN button on the welcome screen?
Only shows up on a desktop/laptop browser — phones and tablets never see it, since they're already full-bleed with no browser chrome to hide. Click it to hide the address bar and everything else; click it again (it becomes EXIT FULLSCREEN) to get it back. Your choice is remembered for next time, but browsers only allow actually entering fullscreen as the direct result of a click, never automatically on page load — so a remembered "on" preference re-applies itself on your next click on the welcome screen instead.
Why can't I right-click, zoom, or open developer tools?
On purpose, everywhere in the app — right-click/inspect, F12 and its shortcuts, Ctrl+U (view source), and Ctrl+wheel/Ctrl+plus/minus zoom are all disabled. This is a light deterrent against casual poking at a shared/public screen, not real security — anything a browser renders has already been sent to it in full either way.
